I started this book 99.5% sure I'm just going to tell you what's wrong with this book and Pinker's thesis that violence has declined over time. Cut to the Chase: This is somewhat of a departure for Pinker, whose earlier works have focused more on language, learning, and neurobiology. I'm reading “Better Angels of Our Nature” about the decline of violence in the course of human history. His book should make it much harder for pessimists to cling to their gloomy vision of the future. Both Pinker and It takes only a single page of preamble before he lays out his grisly stall to try and sell us his grislier thesis, which as far as I can understand it, is basically that everyone was once generally violent and horrible (tribal people still are, apparently they are living relics of the past). Titel: The Better Angels of Our Nature. "The Better Angels is a monumental achievement.
